Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA):   HIPAA is a federal law in the United States enacted in 1996 to provide individuals with greater access to healthcare insurance and to protect the privacy and security of individuals' personal health information. Under HIPAA, individuals who change or lose their job can continue their health insurance coverage, even if they have a pre-existing condition. HIPAA establishes confidentiality, integrity, and security standards for the storage and transmission of individuals' personal health information, including medical records, billing information, and other related data.
